MAC APP FOR SMIL FILES FREE
I re-booted the NAS system, removed the Qsync app and eventually found the free version of Sync Folders and gave it a try. I then painstakingly copied one folder at a time over several days only to find that they all desappeared for some reason - possibly due to the Qsync app. I found that the interface would only copy the first three months of each year. It was stored in a different folder for each year, each with sub-folders for each month, and further sub-folders for each ‘event’ of that month. I was trying to copy 1.1Tb of 200 000 photos over the last 5 years. I tried several other methods of copying the files but the file manage of the system would only copy the first 10000 files of each folder. I tried the Qsync function to back up my files from my Macbook to the NAS storage device but had trouble with file permissions and had to remove the app. I recently set up a Qnap NAS system, first time using such a device. To summarize, Sync Folders is well made app that receives regular updates (even ahead of time!), and setting up synchronization of your digital stuff is fast and easy with this app. And all the apps by the developer GreenWorldSoft are already macOS High Sierra compatible! So, what I am getting at to is that Sync Folders is a good quality product and, from what I see, the developer cares about his apps and is passionate about them - the features that are found in the free edition of Sync Folders are often offered on paid–only basis in many apps of a similar nature. There are significantly less really good de-duplication solutions, and I've chosen what I consider to be the best one. I've come to know about Sync Folders because I use another product by this developer called Duplicate Manager Pro.

There a lot of solutions on the market and beyond it (in reference to the wide wild open source world that often does not care about markets and user base!) that offer synchronization solutions for any scenario imaginable.
